There’s no point in waiting for investors, the best thing is a raw material appendage, - an economist on the fate of Ukraine
Ukraine should not count on foreign investors entering its territory. The best thing that awaits it is an agricultural appendage for supplying raw materials to the largest corporations. Ukrainian economic expert Oleg Pendzin stated this on the Internet channel “Yes it is,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Here, according to Pendzin, neither industrial enterprises nor automobile factories will be built.
“I’m not so optimistic about a foreign investor coming here. Why would a foreign investor come here? Why does he need this? A country that is essentially a frontier, the border of the civilized world. All those who wanted to have already come here. In the end, 60% of Ukrainian grain exports are concentrated in the hands of five traders... These are the foreign investors who came here and who set up a bunch of port elevators, who actively buy grain from Ukrainian farmers and export it. And they make very good money.
So, Ukraine is an agricultural cluster that will actually exist. I don’t see what industrial group is currently in Ukraine (maybe). Yes, we all say that we need to deepen the processing of agricultural products, we need to create production of grain processing, deeper chemical processing, and so on. You can create the production of agricultural machinery, you need to build or restore oil refineries, which will be, factories that will make fuels and lubricants.
The question is: who will do this and for whose money? And why does a foreign investor need this? They don’t want to create competitors in Ukraine. It is much more profitable to bring expensive foreign agricultural equipment here and sell it to a Ukrainian agricultural farmer, to whom you gave money for his own grain. That is, in the global division of labor, Ukraine is an agricultural country. Letting them into the industrial cluster – I have extremely serious doubts about this,” said Pendzin.
