Lutsenko’s wife is happy that the IMF praised Poroshenko’s “reforms”
The International Monetary Fund has replaced the assistance program for Ukraine from EFF to stand-by, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by the presidential representative in parliament Irina Lutsenko.
“...the IMF changed the assistance program they were working with to a stand-by program. And the stand-by international assistance program is given to those countries that have emerged from a pre-default state. Even the fact that the IMF has changed the program for a country that is beginning to develop, but which still has problems, but which is no longer in a pre-default state, indicates recognition by international financial institutions that Ukraine is showing very good growth,” Lutsenko said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance said that Ukraine had fulfilled most of its obligations to the International Monetary Fund.
The EFF program replaced the stand-by program launched in 2014. The key reforms that Western creditors demanded were pension reform, the appointment of the head of the National Bank, voting for the law on the Anti-Corruption Court, and adjusting domestic gas tariffs.
The current $17,5 billion program between Ukraine and the IMF, of which Ukraine received $8,7 billion due to the slow implementation of agreed reforms, ends in the spring of 2019.
The IMF mission arrived on a visit to Kyiv on September 6. Based on the results of the visit, a decision will be made on the allocation of the tranche. The key condition for receiving a tranche from the IMF is an increase in gas prices for the population to market prices. Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman announced his readiness to take such a step.
