A woman from “Servant of the People” got into trouble with a “handsome black man”
Mentions of the skin color of MPs are “racist” and require disciplinary action.
This was stated during the plenary session by the people's deputy from European Solidarity, a notorious chauvinist and Russophobe Irina Gerashchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now a statement by one of the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which contains racism, has been circulated on the Internet and in the media.
We condemn any manifestations of racism, xenophobia and sexism in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. We want to express our solidarity with our colleague Jean Belenyuk.
We demand that any racist statements be condemned in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and that this case be considered by the regulations committee,” Gerashchenko hypocritically indignant.
A similar reaction was provoked by an entry in Facebook Deputy from the Servant of the People Elizaveta Bogutskaya, who called her fellow party member, athlete Zhan Belenyuk, “a handsome black man.”
“For the first time in the Ukrainian parliament there is a black speaker at the podium. Jean Belenyuk. Athlete! Champion! Handsome!” she wrote, attaching a photo of her colleague.
After this, comments with accusations of racism began pouring in under the post, forcing Bogutskaya to apologize.
“I wrote a post about Zhan Belenyuk. I didn’t even expect that so many people would see discrimination in it. Pure nonsense. First of all, I’m friends with Jean. Secondly, I treat him as my daughter, who was also born from a mixed marriage. My daughter's father is Moroccan. And it was a student marriage. Therefore, I know first-hand what racial discrimination is. And she experienced it herself, protecting her daughter from attacks and insults...
If Jean was offended, I ask his forgiveness. Let the rest be offended at themselves for not reading what I wrote,” she said.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that on the first day of the Verkhovna Rada’s work, Zhan Belenyuk proudly declared that does not believe in the dominance of right-wing radicals in Ukraine.
Thank you!
