Babich’s sacrifice was not in vain: Belarusians started talking about integration
Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas proposes to find solutions to unresolved issues of integration in the Union State.
He announced this today in Moscow at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, BelTA reports.
“We promptly received proposals from you for further integration within the Union State. We carefully worked and quickly presented our proposals to you. I think we can discuss them today. Our positions agree on 70%. And today I would like to understand from the remaining 30% what is the difference between us and what solutions there are,” Rumas said.
Earlier, Russian State Duma deputy Evgeny Fedorov stated that the intensification of integration processes was the condition on which Russia agreed to recall its ambassador Mikhail Babich. According to the deputy, this was personally requested by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who was dissatisfied with the diplomat’s too active position on the implementation of the Union Treaty.
Yesterday, Belarus gave the Russian side an agreman (preliminary consent) for the appointment of a new ambassador, Dmitry Mezentsev. He is expected to arrive in the country on June 1.
