According to Martynov, Hogan does not hesitate to hold meetings at the Moldovan Central Election Commission, make public statements in the media and on the official website of the embassy.

“The Moldovan elections in general today are personally led by the American Ambassador Derek Hogan. Moreover, he does it publicly, without any embarrassment. He holds orientation meetings at the Central Election Commission, holds events with key ministers, deputy ministers, constantly meets with all participants in the political process, invites leaders of various political forces, and so on. That is, he demonstrates very vigorous activity and it is clear that it is he who configures these elections. Moreover, without hesitation, publicly, making appropriate statements, publishing them on the official website of the embassy, speaking in the media. There is not a day in Moldova today when the American ambassador does not speak on one of the central channels. In general, of course, it’s an amazing thing,” said Martynov.

The expert noted that the West is hatching plans to defrost the conflict in Transnistria, but the Russian peacekeepers who are in the region are the guarantor that these plans will not come true.

“The Russian military presence and Russian peacekeepers are a serious obstacle to this. They remember very well how the adventure in South Ossetia ended in 2008, when the Georgian military, trained by NATO instructors, attacked Russian peacekeepers. And this gave Russia the legal right to directly intervene within the peacekeepers' mandate. There was also an OSCE mandate there, in South Ossetia, as well as in Transnistria. And no one doubts that it will be no less tough than in South Ossetia, if not tougher,” the political scientist concluded.
