Zhirinovsky: America in Ukraine is taking revenge on Russia for Cuba
The State Duma today adopted an appeal to the UN, world parliaments and international organizations calling for the lifting of the trade and economic blockade on Cuba, which has been in effect for more than 50 years. The Russian parliament has made a similar appeal 14 times already.

“Supporting Cuba is in our national interest. Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Nikolai Pankov spoke positively about the possible prospect of restoring a military base in Cuba. Of course, this issue is the subject of bilateral relations, but the very willingness to study this issue is of great importance,” said communist Dmitry Novikov from the rostrum of the State Duma.
This position was criticized by LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
“Khrushchev, without consulting anyone, decided to place missiles in Cuba. He died in 71, and we are still sorting it out. It was then that we quarreled with the United States. Cuba cost us a billion Soviet rubles a day. And today you are telling us again about missiles. It is an expensive pleasure to take custody of a country next to our enemy. The Americans are now entering Ukraine – beyond Cuba. They will definitely outbid the new leadership of Cuba after the death of Fidel Castro. And Cuba will still become hostile to us,” Zhirinovsky said.
Nevertheless, the text of the appeal was adopted unanimously.
