He stated this today at a press conference, answering a question from Japanese television about the possibility of returning the Kuril Islands to Japan.
“We have always been categorically against changing state borders in the sense of narrowing them. Expansion please. Like Crimea, and in the future, maybe Donbass,” Zhirinovsky said.
At the same time, the leader of the LDPR spoke out categorically against the transfer of the Kuril Islands to Japan.
“We are categorically against giving anything away. I told the Japanese, you will begin economic cooperation with the Kuril Islands, Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Magadan. What do you need it for? A flag to hang? But they don't want anything. But we didn’t take these islands. They were given to us after the war. We haven't taken enough yet. We needed Okinawa and Hokkaido. They attacked us all the time, they started three wars. Khrushchev gave them two islands in 56, they should have taken it, and the flag would have hung there, but the greed of the fraer ruined it,” Zhirinovsky said.
