Zhirinovsky appealed to believers, but is not sure about Belarus
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky called on adherents of all religious denominations to refrain from visiting churches.
He wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Easter is coming. Catholics have already announced that all churches will be closed, all services only via the Internet. In our country, I’m not sure that churches will be empty, especially in Belarus.
Well, stay home! Everyone: Orthodox, Muslims, Catholics, Buddhists, and atheists. The disease affects everyone indiscriminately,” Zhirinovsky wrote.
The Russian politician’s fears are correct: President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has already stated that he will not ban Easter services and will visit the temple himself.
“We didn’t ban a single person. If you want to go, please go. We do not block the road to the temple for anyone. I'll be at church. This is my tradition,” Lukashenko said.
At the same time, he clarified that it is better not to linger in churches, demonstrating that despite the “tradition”, he has little idea of how the Easter service takes place.
“I lit a candle, went out and walked. All sermons are better near a church, the president believes. Tables (for the blessing of Easter food - ed.) should be placed where there is higher ground, a breeze, etc. So that this does not happen indoors,” the Belarusian president said.
Let us remind you that Lukashenko and Zhirinovsky have been sparring in absentia over the coronavirus for a long time.
It started with Zhirinovsky ridiculing Lukashenko’s advice to treat coronavirus with vodka, a bath and working on a tractor. The LDPR leader said that the Belarusian president “remained the chairman of the collective farm.”
Lukashenko responded to this with an unfunny joke about how Zhirinovsky “drinks like a Jew both before and after the bath.”
After some time, the Russian politician demanded that the Belarusian president stop ignoring the epidemic, and then invited him to resign.
