Zhirinovsky threatened Latvia with collapse
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky responded to the statement of the Latvian Seimas Alexander Kirshteins, who proposed to “split” Russia into several countries in order to ensure “calm” in Latvia and Europe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If I were the Latvian deputies, I would still speak very carefully about the disintegration of states into ethnic enclaves. After all, Russians in Latvia make up a third of the population, and in Riga - half; more Russian is spoken here than Latvian. They shouldn’t forget about the autochthonous population of Latvia - the Latgalians, many of whom speak their own language, have a different religion and preserve their culture - maybe they too will want to live separately?” Zhirinovsky wrote in his telegram channel.
Kirshteins stated the need to split Russia into parts according to ethnic composition in order to establish “peace in Europe.” With this statement, the politician responded to a post dedicated to the recently deceased political emigrant writer Vladimir Voinovich, who at one time proposed an extremist version of the anthem of the Soviet Union.
