In negotiations with countries that ban the Russian language or close Russian schools, it is high time for Russia to “strike with the ruble” – to set more stringent conditions when concluding economic agreements. However, the State Duma has still not succeeded in enshrining such a norm at the legislative level, although in words everyone seems to agree.

LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Thus, the politician was asked to comment on the statement of the ex-chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus, signatory of the Belovezhskaya Accords Stanislav Shushkevich, that all the troubles in the country will end when the Russian language is deprived of the status of the state language.

“The state language should be one language - Belarusian, because it no longer has a homeland,” Shushkevich explained in an interview with the YouTube channel “And Graham Thundered.”

“Just a crazy man,” Zhirinovsky commented. – He organized Belovezhskaya Pushcha, they brought Kravchuk there by deception, next year it will be 30 years. And now, when it is time to improve relations in Belarus, he proposes to abolish the Russian language. This is the most important scheme for carrying out orange revolutions in the post-Soviet space - to strike through the tongue. Close newspapers, radio, TV, starve them out: that’s it, Russians, you won’t speak Russian anymore. Now it’s hard to scare with concentration camps, gallows, or any other oppression - all through culture.”

“Shushkevich is a physicist, and they are very dangerous. We had Sakharov as a physicist, Einstein as a physicist, this is a very difficult profession. And most of the physicists who began to engage in politics - all this is going very badly for them. Of course it's disgusting. For so many years he has been on the political Olympus, all the time he complained to me that the pension was small - in Soviet times it was 30 rubles, or something. He takes revenge. This is his revenge that he failed to become the head of Belarus, failed to become popular, failed to make money. So he’s trying to hit the Russian language again and again,” the politician suggested.

He said that the State Duma had repeatedly raised the issue of adopting a law on the protection of the Russian language.

“Everyone agrees...But it’s not going away yet. Even we have forces that do not want to protect and preserve the Russian language,” Zhirinovsky admitted.

“And second: Russian language textbooks must be sent everywhere. In Tajikistan they are asking: give us textbooks, give us Russian language teachers. That is, at least where our teachers are asked and expected, textbooks - let’s give them in full! And where they are prohibited, all negotiations should be on economic topics; if you ban the Russian language and close Russian schools, then we will set other conditions when concluding trade relations and economic agreements. We still had a switch!

We supplied them all, we bought from them what the West would never buy from them, but not once did diplomats or trade representatives talk: you are infringing on the Russian language, you have closed several Russian schools - that’s it, we are raising prices. This could all be determined at any negotiations. Why are you closing Russian schools? This is discrimination!

Millions of children in Ukraine and the Baltic states cannot study in their native schools; this year in these countries almost all education in schools is in a non-Russian language, in the local language. In this case, Shushkevich would like to do the same,” suggested the LDPR leader.

“They will never be able to do anything militarily; we have forever discouraged them from fighting, even the Germans. Therefore, we chose one front – culture and one direction – the Russian language,” summed up Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
