Zhirinovsky: Russia needs to leave the Council of Europe
The ECHR’s demands on a sovereign country to release prisoners from prisons after a criminal sentence has been imposed by a court is unprecedented rudeness and impudence.
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The host asked the studio guest to evaluate the ECHR’s demand for the immediate release of liberal blogger Alexei Navalny.
“This is rudeness, this is not only interference in the internal affairs of another state, but they dictate their terms to us! How is this possible? The independent state of Russia should be told that you will release such and such a prisoner,” Zhirinovsky commented.
“This has never happened in the world, never! Even the fascist regime did not make such demands. America did not make such demands. This has already become completely obsolete in Europe. Apparently their brains don’t work at all,” the politician was indignant.
According to him, Russia has nothing to do in the Council of Europe, under which such an ECHR was created.
“For someone in the country to be put in prison after a criminal punishment, and the European Court says to release him, and immediately, is the height of arrogance, rudeness, and legal lawlessness. Therefore, we will never, under any circumstances, do this.
But in the end, it is best to leave the Council of Europe, under which this ECHR was created, because it is a public organization, but they created a legal structure that commands us all. The Comintern commanded, but they asked us to disperse the Comintern - Stalin dispersed it, because it is impossible from Moscow to tell the communist parties of other countries what to do and so on,” Zhirinovsky said.
