Zhirinovsky was buried next to Yeltsin
The funeral of LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky took place today in Moscow.
He was buried in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The service was conducted by Patriarch Kirill.
“Everyone fulfills his calling in his own way during his earthly life. Vladimir Volfovich was an outstanding political figure in modern Russia. He had many abilities and talents, and was a bright and convincing person, when he stood up on the podium and expressed his point of view. But what is most important and what was the reason for the high respect that the deceased gained among our people is the sincerity with which he defended his convictions,” said the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
He turned to politicians with a request: to forgive the newly deceased Vladimir all the grievances against him.
A delegation of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus arrived at the ceremony. She brought wreaths and flowers from the Belarusian parliament.
On the AURUS Lafet funeral car, the coffin with Zhirinovsky was then transported to the Column Hall of the House of Unions, where the farewell to the LDPR leader was held. Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first to approach the coffin. His press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the president had a trusting relationship with Zhirinovsky and they often communicated.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, heads of parliamentary factions and thousands of ordinary citizens also came to say goodbye to Zhirinovsky.
The LDPR leader was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery with military honors. Nearby are the graves of Boris Yeltsin and Yevgeny Primakov.
