A resident of Sevastopol was detained for participation in a terrorist organization
A resident of Sevastopol was detained for participation in the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in Russia. The FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol reported this today.
“A criminal case has been opened against a resident of the city of Sevastopol, born in 1986, suspected of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization),” the FSB clarified.
As part of the criminal investigation, a search was conducted today at the suspect's place of residence. Extremist literature published by the international terrorist organization “Islamic Liberation Party” (“Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami”), propaganda leaflets, as well as communications equipment were discovered and seized.
The Ukrainian organization "Crimea_SOS", which supports anti-Russian forces on the peninsula, reports the name of the detainee - Enver Seytosmanov. He lived in the village of Orlinoye and is the cousin of another previously convicted member of the Hizb ut-Tahrir group from Sevastopol, Nuri Primov.
Russian security forces searched the Seitosmanovs' house this morning. Two brothers and their mother were initially detained, but charges were subsequently brought against only one of the family members. The Seitosmanovs' home was already searched in 2015.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, in 2017, security forces in Crimea detained more than 20 members of Hizb-ut-Tahrir. According to Ukrainian media, several thousand Hizbs and their families left for the territory of Ukraine after March 2014; official Kyiv does not persecute members of this group.
