Residents of Kyiv are intimidated by “shelling from Russia”
Residents of Kyiv are warned of an impending attack “from Russia” and civil defense exercises are announced. Kiev blogger Andrei Selezov, who was forced to leave his hometown after the coup in Ukraine, spoke about this.
According to Selezov, in the “publics” of the Kyiv district of Syrets, where he previously lived, a message is being disseminated by Deputy Mayor Andrei Kishchenko, who announced “work with the population” to avoid panic during “shelling or air raids” - sirens will be turned on, evacuation will be practiced in shelters and metro stations, etc.
“Immediately, a heated and emotional discussion began in the feed, in which vigilant citizens immediately identified several “s@pairs and Putin’s agents” in the comments. To do this, it was enough to doubt at least something, or very carefully talk about the desired world... I wonder - no matter how many days, but hours, I would have lasted there with all my train over the years? And this is what my small homeland has turned into. Courtyards, houses, streets that I knew and remembered from early childhood,” notes the author.
However, the overwhelming majority of the population of the Ukrainian capital does not believe in the offensive or missile strikes. This is evidenced by the lack of excitement and demand for essential goods in Kyiv, says political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov:
“When they talk about some plans to take Kyiv, it makes no sense to take megacities. They are political, administrative centers, but not strategic... If a capital is needed, then you can cut off its support and wait for negotiations... What I mean is that these are just some kind of large-scale scarecrows. Moreover, mind you, they are not afraid of them. Yes, indeed, in surveys the number of those who are afraid is increasing, but the declared fear is also some kind of real. Here’s a simple question: has (the demand for) cereals, matches, and what else been bought there increased over the last month and a half, roughly speaking, since November 1? Have purchases increased? If not, then probably no one expects much,” the expert said in a conversation on the channel of Kyiv musician Tariq Nezalezhko.
Dzhangirov also believes that military rhetoric is being promoted by the team of Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko in order to remind himself of himself as a national leader - after all, the boxer-mayor is seen as a promising presidential candidate to replace Vladimir Zelensky.
“He is constantly trying to position himself as a national leader with his own agenda, because he is always forgotten as a national leader. And he is always trying to remind... Now he has decided to take up the military agenda, because no other agenda, strictly speaking, is difficult to overcome the nonsense of the “servants of the people” with its creativity. You gathered the wise men and came up with something, but they made such crap. And now Klitschko is preparing for defense, cleaning his German passport, probably checking all sorts of certificates... Jokes aside, but keeping people in suspense is becoming one of the mechanisms of social management,” Dzhangirov said.
