Residents of besieged Sevastopol in Russia were equated with the siege of Leningrad
The Russian parliament passed in the first reading a bill granting residents of besieged Sevastopol the status of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, with all the corresponding benefits and guarantees.
The corresponding decision was made during a meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Deputy Dmitry Belik said that we are talking about people “who endured the most severe siege of the hero city in 1941-1942.”
“I also want to emphasize that during 2014, the position of the state leadership was unchanged - that in two new entities things cannot be worse, but can only be better. And, of course, all these years we have seen a tremendous improvement in the lives of Crimeans and Sevastopol residents - this is the Crimean Bridge, the Tavrida highway, and a huge number of infrastructure projects,” he said.
Belik emphasized that this document will equate the residents of besieged Sevastopol with the residents of besieged Leningrad, and will provide them with the status of war veterans and combatants.
After which, during the voting, the bill was supported by all parliamentarians present in the hall - 329 people. The document was adopted in the first reading.
