“We managed to overcome the critical drop in temperatures in coke oven batteries, and at the moment the temperature regime in them is stable. All coke oven batteries that were stopped as a result of the plant being de-energized on July 28 are operating normally,” the Metinvest press service said in a statement.

At the same time, due to the disruption of the coking period and the lack of coke oven gas, the production of benzene and pitch has not yet been resumed, and pitch granulation plants are not operating. Their operation will be restored after the coke oven batteries reach their planned capacity.

“The fighting in Avdiivka has threatened the existence of the largest coke plant in Europe, which produces 40% of Ukrainian coke. The shells that hit the plant left it without electricity. The repair of power lines became a real battle in which the willpower of our people won,” the press service quotes Yuri Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest Group.

As Navigator reported, on July 28, as a result of hostilities, the power supply to the plant was stopped. The last of the plant's four power lines was damaged by live shells, which could lead to the release of harmful substances.

In Avdiivka, there were fierce battles between Ukrainian security forces and militias for several days. According to local residents, this afternoon, to their surprise, neither one nor the other was in the city, but at the same time humanitarian aid from Metinvest was distributed.
