“Residents of Donetsk and Lugansk, other territories and regions of Ukraine,” Matvienko announced referendums on joining the Russian Federation

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko announced this today at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Citizens of Ukrainian regions will decide their own fate. We will respect their will.
The role of the Federation Council in this story is key. We approved the president's decision to recognize the LDPR. None of the senators lost heart. Believe me, I didn’t talk to anyone, I didn’t convince anyone.
We also unanimously decided to use the Armed Forces abroad. Nobody is pushing anyone.
Nobody gives orders from above to anyone. If residents of Donetsk and Lugansk, other territories and regions of Ukraine consider it necessary to hold a referendum, to express their will, we, within the framework of our constitutional duties and powers, will, of course, consider this issue.
We don't abandon our own. If referendums are held, we are ready to gather at any time and consider appeals, if any. There is no need to rush things, they develop naturally. We’ll wait,” Matvienko said.
