Residents of Mariupol flee the city controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The second largest city of the DPR, captured by the Ukrainian army in the summer of 2014, Mariupol, is experiencing a constant outflow of population, despite a relatively stable economic situation.
Volunteer from Donbass Enrique Menendez said this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the reason for this is the virtual isolation of Mariupol from the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.
“There are good salaries in Mariupol and this, unfortunately, does not stop the outflow of people from the city, because Mariupol has several big problems - it is isolated from the rest of Ukraine. The train from Kyiv to Mariupol takes 18 hours. In order for me to get from Mariupol to Kramatorsk by train, I need to spend the same 18 hours. The train goes through Zaporozhye and Kharkov. It’s a seven-hour drive through three internal checkpoints,” Menendez said.
