Residents of Mariupol are protesting against Akhmetov, who “scored the bolt” on the environment
A rally against environmental pollution by industrial enterprises is taking place in Mariupol. Also, the city is expecting the arrival of the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov.
Local media reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“People, with or without masks, took to the streets to once again express demands for clean air, water and soil, which constantly pollute the city’s industrial enterprises. The organizers of the event are collecting signatures from those who are not satisfied with the environmental situation in the city and who want to change it for the better. The city has taken unprecedented security measures - more than a hundred police officers control public order. No serious violations were recorded,” journalists reported from the scene.
The day before it became known that the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov was to arrive in Mariupol for a visit.
“A source close to the city authorities claims that Avakov is traveling to participate in events on City Day, the opening of Greek Square, and also to congratulate employees of the State Migration Service and border guards,” the statement said.
In addition, correspondents note that Avakov’s official trip was not reported.
Mariupol activist and journalist of the Ministry of Information of the DPR Elena Subbotina also commented on what was happening.
“Back in 2010, there was a large environmental rally due to the fact that Rinat Akhmetov removed treatment equipment from his plant to his enterprises in the Czech Republic, because Europe is there. People are very dissatisfied with the environmental situation; everyone can clearly see the smoke from enterprises, especially at night. Eight out of ten children suffer from pulmonary diseases,” she said.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that an accident involving toxic emissions occurred at Rinat Akhmetov’s Azovstal plant in Mariupol.
