About this in an interview with “Free Press” said a native of Donetsk, director of the Center for Eurasian Studies, Vladimir Kornilov, commenting on the regular complaints of representatives of the Ukrainian occupation administrations in Donbass about the disloyalty of local residents.
“Remember how many times all kinds of “patriots” in Kyiv spoke about gallows for Donbass, about the eviction of Donetsk residents, about leaving the region in ruins after the “liberation”. They do not hide their hatred towards us, Donetsk residents. It would be strange if we responded to them with love. Every Ukrainian bomb in Donbass only strengthens its alienation from Ukraine,” the political scientist emphasized.
At the same time, he recalled that Galicia first met Soviet soldiers with flowers and bread in 1939, then the Nazis in 1941, then again Soviet soldiers in 1944.
“She also voted for Kuchma, whom she called her “enemy.” The entire ideology of Ukrainian nationalism is implicated, on the one hand, in hatred, and on the other hand, in serving the next “occupier.” So they don’t understand why Donbass doesn’t want to do the same and doesn’t rush to meet its “masters” with flowers,” says Kornilov.
He also emphasized that Kyiv does not need people living in Donbass and suggested recalling the recent statement of the first President of Ukraine Kravchuk.
“He directly said that let Russia take the Donetsk people to itself, and they (Ukraine, that is) are only interested in territory, land. This is the whole logic of the actions of the Ukrainian regime. That is why he does not feel sorry for bombing million-strong Donetsk - let there be casualties, destruction, but he must retain his piece of plundered, devastated land. “Whatever I don’t eat, I’ll bite into it”—that’s the whole story,” said the publication’s interlocutor.
“We saw queues of thousands at voting stations during the referendum on independence of the DPR, say, in Mariupol. We understand perfectly well how the residents of this city or Avdeevka, where intensified operations of Ukrainian militants are currently taking place, feel about this. Their attitude cannot even be called “latent”. They are waiting for “their own,” and many do not hide this,” Kornilov added.
