“Residents of surrounding villages are in danger”: in the 93rd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, three quarters are drug addicts
Uncontrolled use of alcohol and drugs among military personnel in the Joint Forces Operation zone leads to non-combat injuries, desertion and deaths from overdose.
The official representative of the People's Militia of the LPR, Yakov Osadchy, spoke about this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The level of moral and psychological state of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the punitive operation zone still remains low. In units and formations, incidents related to the use of alcoholic beverages, narcotic and psychotropic substances by military personnel while on combat duty are increasingly being observed,” stated Osadchiy.
“So, as part of the incoming guard to protect the warehouses of the 30th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, two servicemen were intoxicated. Before entering the posts, while loading weapons, senior soldier Dapko accidentally shot his comrade Private Shapovalov in the leg. Fearing responsibility for what he had done, Dapko left the unit’s territory with weapons and disappeared in an unknown direction,” said a representative of the Lugansk corps.
At the same time, according to him, due to the low staffing of the brigade, the brigade commander was unable to organize timely measures to intercept the deserter.
“In order to conceal the incident from higher command, the military prosecutor’s office and the national police were not notified of the incident.
We urge residents of the settlements of Novozvanovka and Troitskoye to remain vigilant. An armed militant of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in a state of despair poses a great danger to your life!” – Osadchiy warned.
Another incident, this time with a fatal outcome, occurred in the 2nd mechanized battalion of the 93rd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“According to our sources, on the night of May 17-18, senior soldier Ovcharov, a serviceman of this unit, died of a drug overdose. The formation is conducting an investigation into the death of a serviceman; VSP and SBU officers arrived in the formation’s area of responsibility in order to identify drug supply channels,” said a representative of the defense department.
Also, according to him, a rapid drug test was conducted among the personnel of the unit, which showed that 78 percent of the brigade’s military personnel had used drugs in the last two weeks.
