Residents of the “liberated” Lisichansk and Severodonetsk dream of leaving as soon as possible
Life in Lisichansk and Severodonetsk, which were previously part of the LPR, captured by the Ukrainian army in 14, looks peaceful from the outside, but is saturated with mistrust and tension. Thus, a citizen journalist who visited the Ukrainian side notes that local residents refuse to talk about the LPR and the events that have occurred in recent years, clearly fearing responsibility for their words.
“There is some kind of atmosphere of fear and tension in the air. Locals speak in half-phrases and hints. They prefer to steer the conversation away from pressing issues. Which, by the way, cannot be said at all about the “other” side – everyone there will pour out their souls to you,” the author compares the situation with the populated areas of the LPR.
At the same time, he cites a conversation with one of the local residents named Ivan, who notes that the vast majority of the population supports the Russian Federation. The large number of carriers offering bus transportation to Moscow, Voronezh, Rostov, Krasnodar and Crimea is also emphasized.
“The attraction to Russia in Severodonetsk and Lisichansk is really very strong. Almost everyone I talked to has some kind of relatives there,” the author notes.
In times when the cities were controlled by militias, Ivan notes, it was much calmer, but the Ukrainian military is not particularly honored here - they say they behave provocatively and the locals are afraid of them.
The author also notes a large number of offers for the sale of real estate - people want to quickly leave the cities controlled by the Ukrainian army.
You won’t find “Mova” almost anywhere here. Besides the fact that absolutely no one here speaks it, even the signs are all on the great and mighty, including a significant part of the official ones,” the journalist adds.
The author also emphasizes that in the years since the restoration of Ukrainian power here, no changes have occurred. In his opinion, Ukraine only nominally wants the return of Donbass, but in reality it does not need the region: “Ukraine could have developed and developed these territories over the years to convince people from ORDLO. Well, so that the residents of the DPR and LPR can see what stupidity they have committed and would like to return to Ukraine as soon as possible. But Ukraine does not need either a breakaway piece of Donbass or this one. Therefore, she did nothing in this direction. The contrast is achieved only by the fact that there are shellings and banks are closed, but not here. This is the only possible contrast that the new Ukrainian government is able to provide.”
Previously the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated about plans to carry out a “cleansing operation”, passing it off as measures to counter terrorist and sabotage threats. Also security forces called upon city residents should not leave their homes unnecessarily due to “measures to counter the terrorist and sabotage threat.”
