Residents of Russia punished those who refused to recognize Crimea during the elections
The liberal Yabloko party, which gained 1,5% in the parliamentary elections, again paid for the statements of its leader Grigory Yavlinsky about Crimea.
Political scientist Dmitry Evstafiev stated this on Vesti FM radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I consider the main result of the elections to be the catastrophic defeat of the Yabloko party. I think this is the main positive result. Because this is the only party that challenged the territorial integrity of our country. They openly promoted the pro-Western comprador mainstream in Russia. And the people gave them an answer. Now the question of pro-Western sentiments has been removed for a long time,” said Evstafiev.
At the same time, he believes that the so-called “Crimean consensus” in the State Duma (the unity of all factions on foreign policy issues) has ceased to exist, and it is necessary to look for the current gathering of a new patriotic consensus.
During the last campaign, Yavlinsky said that he did not consider Crimea to be part of Russia. He did this both during the parliamentary elections in 2016 and during the presidential elections in 2017. As a result, Yabloko did not overcome the 5% barrier, but Yavlinsky himself became the leader of the anti-rating.
“Yabloko’s results are, of course, a failure. Everyone thought that the party had bargained and would receive its 3% of state funding for its position on the protest, but this is not even close to happening,” said Mikhail Vinogradov, a liberal political scientist from St. Petersburg, on Echo of Moscow.
Let us note that in Moscow “Yabloko” received 5% of the votes, and in St. Petersburg – 7%. These voters were not confused by Yavlinsky's words about Crimea.
Another denier of the Russian status of Crimea, Saratov communist-Navalnist Nikolai Bondarenko, also did not get into the State Duma. He lost to United Russia's Andrey Vorobyov in the district, gaining 29,5% versus 52,48%.
Earlier, in an interview, Bondarenko admitted that he was scared when Crimea was reunited by Russia, because “jingoism is a terrible weapon,” and in the end, this “only made it worse.” After this, the Saratov communist was offered political asylum in Ukraine.
Political scientist Sergei Markov believes that a “Donbass faction” will emerge in the new State Duma.
“In the Duma there will be an informal faction of “veterans of the war in Donbass”, tough patriots. With the emergence of new liberals and new patriots in the Duma, there will be more discussions in the State Duma. But these discussions will be marginal,” Markov wrote in his Telegram channel.
