Residents of eastern Ukraine do not agree with linguistic genocide
The majority of Ukrainians support Ukrainian as the only state language, but there remains a huge layer of those in the country who are against the oppression of Russian speakers.
This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Ukrainian sociological group “Rating” from May 29 to June 3, 2019, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It turned out that two-thirds of those surveyed were in favor of Ukrainian being the only state language. 21% are in favor of giving Russian state status, another 11% are in favor of its official status in certain regions of the country.
The majority of those in favor of the status of the Russian language are among residents of the East, those who communicate in it constantly, as well as voters of the “Opposition Platform - For Life”.
