About it reports the local publication “Zhitomir.info”.
On the regional council website on April 24 the draft resolution of the session prepared by Kizin was made public with a corresponding appeal to the President, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada.
The representative of the nationalists believes that “depriving Ukrainians of the right to their nationality is a gross violation of the principle of the rule of law (Article 8 of the Constitution of Ukraine), the requirements enshrined in international acts.” In particular, Kizin points to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil Political Rights.
“Taking into account that citizenship does not mean a legal connection between an individual and the state without determining the ethnic origin of an individual, we ask you to provide the necessary legal mechanisms for establishing an individual’s nationality, as well as legislatively normalize the procedure for establishing an individual’s nationality. Ukrainian ethnic origin is the belonging of a person or his ancestors to the Ukrainian nation and his recognition of Ukraine as the homeland of his ethnic origin.
Each person has his own nationality (his ethnic, blood origin), soul (language, songs, dances, culture, history, traditions, customs, religion, national heroes, cuisine - everything that is inherent in this particular nation) and spirit (the ability to defend, defend, fight, and if necessary, give their lives for their people. Ukrainians demonstrated this during the “Revolution of Dignity” and sacrificially demonstrate this today, defending the independence of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war. It is this triune unity that determines the essence of man and its Divine, the natural and legal right to know one’s nationality and attest to belonging to it.
Today, more than ever, the issue of supporting the identification of ethnic Ukrainians in Ukraine, who make up almost 80% of the population of our state, is relevant.
Taking into account the above, we appeal to you with a request: to return to ethnic Ukrainians the right to have a record of their nationality. Introduce to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on the renewal of the “nationality” column in the passport, birth certificate, death certificate, marriage, adoption, and others,” says the draft appeal.
Let us remember that the column “nationality” was mandatory in the passports of citizens of the USSR. In independent Ukraine, this practice was abandoned. Until 2014, nationality was indicated only on Ukrainian birth certificates.
