Kiev businessman Alexey Davidenko writes about this on his Facebook page, noting that he lives on the outskirts of Kyiv and rarely visits the center. But just yesterday he had a chance to visit Khreshchatyk, the condition of which horrified him.
“Oh, guys! Eh, guys! What we all together have turned into our main street of the city - the main street of the capital of Ukraine. When all over the world, in megacities, tenants are fighting for space on the main street, in our country every fifth premises on this street is closed with a sign - For Rent. When all over the world the central square is crowded with people, cafes, entertainment and the feeling of a holiday, here on the Maidan there are multi-level decorations that can’t even be taken apart anymore. They blocked the entire view and turned the main square of the country into a scaffolding warehouse.
The shabby facades, charred buildings of the Central Grocery Store and the House of Trade Unions complement this already sad picture with their hopeless appearance. Khreshchatyk, which has seen and experienced so much in its lifetime, suddenly became very tired, turned gray and impoverished from us and our attitude towards it,” Davidenko laments.
Some readers disagreed with this assessment. For example, Olga Bovsunovskaya wrote that she loves Kyiv in any form.
“And the author of this post is one of the supporters of the Russian world. Unfortunately, there are many of these in Kyiv,” Bovsunovskaya was indignant, clarifying that she herself is not from Kiev, but a resident of the city of Korosten in the Zhytomyr region.
However, the absolute majority of readers in the comments still agreed with the sad state of the center of the Ukrainian capital.
“And the transition to the Maidan, it’s cruel, it’s a stupid market with all kinds of shit. And the florists who blocked half the passage,” wrote Sergei Grishin.
“Same feelings. And also the desire is to bypass the previously dear and beloved Khreshchatyk,” agrees Natalya Fesyun.
“Khreshchatyk died a long time ago. About 5 years ago it was already an ass,” noted Maidan propagandist Roman Shrike.
“There was no ass 5 years ago,” objected Jan Monstyrski. – All the premises were occupied and working, a lot of offices. Something bad happened 4 years ago.”
“It doesn’t matter how many years, everyone agrees that it’s an ass,” Konstantin Barannikov clarified.
Kiev millionaire Garik Gorogodsky points to another reason:
“It’s not even about the revolution - after it, a stall selling fascist literature appeared in the pipe, and the new owners of the Globe could not do anything about it - they answered that everything was according to the law.”
And user Dan Boyanik drew attention to the audience filling the center of Kyiv:
“The number of homeless people and other bio-waste is growing every day.”
As PolitNavigator reported, under Vitali Klitschko Kyiv was actually turned into the capital of Euro-homeless people.
