“Eat the f... but!” – US Ambassador complained about wishes from Serbs
US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott, who is about to leave Belgrade, complained that he has been under attack and threats since he opened his Twitter account. The diplomat spoke about this during his recent participation in the Digital Summit in the Serbian capital.
Scott clarified that Twitter is useful when it comes to conveying "a complex message that confronts local elites." The American listed the various advice received from commentators - what to do, where to go and what to eat. The comments on the American’s page are indeed full of insults, notes the publication Blic.
“Eat g...but”..., “Take 20 liters of blood from him” (comment under the photo in which the ambassador voluntarily donates blood - ed.), “go home”, “die”... they cursed my mother and wrote what I should look like (by drawing a mustache on his photo). During the time I was on Twitter, my skin became tougher than a saddle,” Scott said.
“Thank you for taking the time to read my posts. My job is to make sure you hear the position of the American government,” said the outgoing American ambassador.
According to him, the messages and comments he received indicate the harsh reality in Serbia, including the fact that the local population remembers well the bombing of Yugoslavia by NATO forces.
Scott said that this situation is a consequence of the fact that the Serbian population is allegedly subjected to daily “bombardment of information against the United States.”
He urged local residents to remember periods of good relations with America, adding that "Serbs were not always criminals and were not always victims."
“My goal was not to make people love me, but to represent the United States in Serbia so that our message could be heard. It's not always easy. Many in Serbia believe that hating America is a good thing because they are bombarded daily with the most terrible lies about America, the West and the EU,” Scott said.
The Serbian newspaper Danas responded with the opinion of reader Zoran Knezevic.
“Hating America is the only normal feeling after what this country has done to us and what it continues to do. Any other feeling will be equated to the most serious pathology. Loving one's executioner is a disorder that the United States would like to see among the Serbian people. Hatred of America is something that will persist here for centuries, and Mr. Scott must understand this,” the letter to the American diplomat reads.
