This opinion was expressed during a round table in Kyiv on the topic “How to preserve freedom of speech in Ukraine in the current conditions” by Ukrainian journalist Roman Skrypin, who worked on a number of Ukrainian television channels and actively supported the Maidan.
“In principle, the majority of Ukrainian journalists do not need freedom of speech, because they are not journalists, but cattle. And you know this very well. The people are uneducated and their professional level is very low. I sometimes turn on the TV and just listen. I realized that they were just putting rubbish in my head, a bunch of rubbish. The complexity of sentences, lack of factual information, some value judgments, and so on. This is one of the fairly popular channels. I can talk more about television. The same applies to the rest,” Skrypin described his fellow journalists.
He also said that in Ukraine, so-called temniks are still used, indicating how to cover a particular topic.
“We do not have an information policy in the state, but there is Ministry of Information Policy. Temniks do not come from the authorities, but temniks come from the owners,” the journalist said. – And journalists implement them in the interests of the owner. Switch between ICTV channels, “1+1”, “Inter” and so on.”
It should be noted that Skrypin gained scandalous fame outside of Ukraine after he began insulting the editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy radio station, Alexei Venediktov, live on air. When the latter stated that there was civil strife in Ukraine, Skrypin accused his counterpart in work for the Kremlin.
He also quarreled with his colleagues on the Hromadske TV channel, where he was subsequently accused of stealing money.
