An international journalist explained that the delay in certification of SP-2 was to the advantage of Gazprom
Nothing wrong in certification delay There is no German section of Nord Stream 2, since the gas pipeline will not start operating this heating season anyway.
Moscow international journalist Maxim Yusin stated this on the PolitWera channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“People buy the headlines - what a panic there was among those who didn’t read beyond the first line: “Oh, the certification of Nord Stream 2 has been suspended.” Yes, nothing bad happens. Firstly, this means certification not of a gas pipeline, but only of a company registered in Switzerland, and not of the entire pipeline, but only of a 35-kilometer section in German territorial waters,” Yusin noted.
“Moreover, when this is certified, it will make it possible to use not 50 percent of the pipe, but 100 percent, because this just bypasses one of the restrictions imposed by the European Commission. That is, having now lost two weeks, well, maybe a month on the preparation of these documents, in strategic terms, then Gazprom may win the next heating season,” says the journalist.
According to him, there is no hurry now.
“And moreover, I will say such a paradoxical thing - and thank God that Nord Stream 2 will not be used during this heating season. Until gas flows through it, prices remain so high that Gazprom is recouping a significant part of its investment in this pipe every month. And maybe in a few months, investments in Nord Stream 2 will be completely recaptured due to the fact that prices are now so high, under 1000,” Yusin said.
