“Mriya” (in Ukrainian - dream) began to be built on the southern coast of Crimea by Sberbank of Russia back in the times of Ukraine. It was assumed that the hotel would operate under the management of the Rixos chain. However, due to sanctions, the brand currently does not advertise its work in Crimea. By the way, like Sberbank itself, there are no branches of this financial institution on the peninsula, but there is a hotel.

“Mriya” is a good Turkish “five” with a large well-groomed area, swimming pools, baths, a medical and sports center, as well as various “entertainment” such as a bikini competition, which was shown to journalists. True, a vacation here will cost twice as much as a tour to Rixos in Antalya cost in the past (for Crimeans there is a 20% discount, and Sberbank employees vacation at separate rates).

Despite this, as hotel director Grant Babasyan assures, Mriya’s rooms are already 90% booked until September. Mostly residents of Russia are coming (the management held presentations of the hotel in dozens of cities in the Russian Federation), there are still guests from Ukraine, and at the time of the journalists’ visit there were even two tourists from Japan.

“There is demand, and demand creates supply... No one is trying to make money in the high and low seasons. The tariff schedule in the low season is very affordable. Of course, not 20 or 30 euros, but maybe plus 10% covers the cost of maintaining the hotel. Yes, prices go up during high season. But we have social responsibility, 900 employees,” says Babasyan.

The Minister of Resorts of Crimea, Sergei Strelbitsky, who arrived at the presentation, answered the question from “PolitNavigator”: could an official afford a vacation in such a hotel?

“I don’t plan to stay in this hotel yet,” he said.

When asked to clarify which Crimeans come to Mriya, the minister said: “Which Crimean can afford a Mercedes, and which can afford a Zhiguli? There is a market, there are different prices in the market. There are rooms that cost 20 thousand. There are rooms that cost 2 thousand. Everyone starts from the budget they have.”

By the way, “Mriya” is not yet the most expensive option on the South Coast. Nearby is the Crimean Breeze complex with an even steeper price tag - from 30 thousand rubles per day for a double room. And they also say there is demand.
