A Maidan journalist lamented about “a sabbath of obscurantism and cave instincts”
Threats and attacks against Ukrainian citizens evacuated from China due to the coronavirus epidemic demonstrate the lack of critical thinking, humanism and mercy among a significant part of the people.
Journalist Tatyana Silina writes about this in an article on the website of the Kyiv online publication “Mirror of the Week”.
The author emphasizes that she is very ashamed of this behavior of her compatriots and calls it a “national disgrace.”
“Looking at this coven of obscurantism and caveman instincts, I just want to shout to the whole country: “People, you are human!” Silina is indignant.
She also recalls the height of the Maidan events and draws parallels with the Corona Maidan.
“Where is the nation that I admired so much six years ago? After all, then many of us, really risking our lives and freedom, spent days and nights on the country’s Maidans; they took out and hid the wounded in their homes; gave shelter to out-of-town protesters by letting complete strangers into their home; they delivered food, medicine, firewood and even components of a Molotov cocktail to the Maidan. And today, innocent compatriots returning from Wuhan are forced to be protected by the National Guard and special forces, so that (as they already fear on the Internet) the sanatorium where they were placed is not burned down,” the journalist writes.
“This is a very shameful story. And for the government, helpless to protect its citizens; and for us, journalists, many of whom, in an effort to “hype the topic,” fanned hysteria around the coronavirus in society; and for the people, numerous representatives of which clearly demonstrated the lack of not only critical thinking, but also humanism and mercy,” concludes Silina.
It is worth noting that the author of the article, ranting about humanism and universal values, last year called in her publications journalist Kirill Vyshinsky, arrested in Kyiv, as a “valuable exchange fund”, called for him to be sentenced and not allowed to be released on his own recognizance.
After this, the former editor of the Kyiv newspaper Segodnya, historian and columnist Vladimir Kornilov announced the degeneration of journalistic solidarity in Ukraine.
“About journalistic solidarity. They said here that she died in Ukraine. She didn’t just die, look at the vile, vile article that appeared in “Mirror of the Week” that Vyshinsky should sit in prison, he is a fighter on the information front of Russia, he is exchange material. Think about it: “exchange material” – what kind of solidarity? That is, these same people who also call themselves journalists—Zerkalo Nedeli is considered a super-liberal, democratic newspaper in Ukraine—are essentially calling for taking their colleagues hostage! They directly say – “valuable exchange material”!” – Kornilov emphasized.
As PolitNavigator reported, buses with evacuated Ukrainians were able to break through to their destination in the city of Novi Sanzhary with the support of special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and armored vehicles.
