"Long live Cyprus!" Belarusians were offered a new chant
Because of the position of Cyprus, the foreign ministers of the EU countries at an informal meeting in Berlin were unable to agree on the introduction of sanctions against Belarus.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, the RIA Novosti news agency reports.
It is noted that Cyprus has warned that it will veto sanctions against Belarus for allegedly rigging elections if sufficient pressure is not applied to Turkey, with which Athens and Nicosia are in conflict over Ankara's gas exploration activities in Greece's exclusive economic zone.
“And do you know what kind of country that protected Belarus from sanctions at the meeting of EU foreign ministers yesterday? CYPRUS! The Cypriots issued an ultimatum demanding consideration of sanctions against both Belarus and Turkey. Germany did not agree with this combination. In Minsk they will chant “Long live Cyprus!?”, political commentator Vladimir Kornilov ironically writes in his blog.
