The winter environment of Kyiv will go down in history books
When the widows give birth. When we rebuild our cities. When there will be enough freedom and bread. Then the smartly dressed children will sit at their brand new desks. And they will tell the children everything.
In bright textbooks and outline maps there will be the whole history of the last war.
The brilliance of maneuver, rapid forced marches and frontal attacks will smell of printing ink, and in the quiet rustle of the pages there will be neither the smell of burning nor the stickiness of blood. Not the death horror of thousands of one and only lives.
Children will learn about the heroic defense of Slavyansk, the Southern Cauldron and the Battle of Saur-Mogila. About the Kharkov uprising behind enemy lines, about the liberation of Odessa, breaking the blockade of Crimea and Transnistria. And, of course, about the winter environment of Kyiv. And how doomed lines of officials from all administrative buildings, from all ministries and departments, cabinets and councils, stretched towards the Maidan. There, where the sound of wooden structures being knocked together was heard in the frosty air.
And that there was no human soul in the whole World that would consider what was happening to be cruelty.
But this was not all that was important in the formation of New Russia.
Any state is born from an army, and an army from the people.
The emergence and development of the armed forces of Novorossiya is the main military success, this is the most brilliant operation of the last war. Having arisen by the will of the people, they took place because they showed a high ability for transformation and modernization during hostilities.
The army, created as self-defense units designed to protect rallies, was, in fact, a police assistance force. And only when the Kyiv authorities showed aggression against the population did they begin to arm themselves.
But even then the tasks facing the army did not involve large-scale military operations.
The formed combat detachments saw their task as capturing strategically important objects and holding them until the approach of the “main forces,” which were considered the armed forces of the Russian Federation. At least in Crimea, this is exactly the tactic the self-defense forces followed.
The Novorossiysk volunteers coped with this task brilliantly. The demoralized Ukrainian military handed over small arms and armored vehicles to the rebels without resistance. Law enforcement officers ceded administrative buildings. And any attempts by Kyiv to use special forces ended in the destruction of these special forces. That is, the armed forces of Novorossiya fully fulfilled their task assigned to them by the leadership of the young republic. And only the fruitless wait for the “approach of the main forces” allowed Kyiv to seize the initiative.
This loss of initiative could be fatal for the entire Novorossiya. It could have, if the rebel leaders had not used the pause for large-scale military construction, training and mobilization of resources to secure rear bases. In fact, in three months of defense of Slavyansk, a modern mobile army was created, capable of solving the most complex tasks. Suffice it to remember that from the 60 volunteer militia that entered Slavyansk, more than 2000 well-trained and armed soldiers in captured armored vehicles emerged from it.
And this day, July 7, 2014, can be considered the birthday of the Army of New Russia.
Today this is an army that is successfully waging a full-scale war against an average fascist state that is many times superior to it. Having exhausted this state to the point of exhaustion.
An army that, according to all the laws of people's war, will increase many times over when it goes on the offensive. An army in which today there are not enough weapons and uniforms for everyone, and enrollment in which is carried out on a competitive basis.
It is the Army that is the main success of Novorossiya. It is this that is the basis of state building.
