The European Union fears that Ukraine will disrupt Russian gas supplies to the Old World next winter. The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.

“Ukraine now receives Russian gas via reverse. We won’t force our gas on her, otherwise, God forbid, she won’t pay again. It is important for us and our European partners whether Ukraine will survive next winter. I don’t know what Gazprom thinks about this, but the European Commission proceeds from the fact that they won’t cope in Ukraine,” Chizhov said.
According to him, less than the required minimum amount of blue fuel is now pumped into gas storage facilities in Ukraine.
“Gas storage facilities were built back in the Soviet period in case of peak loads when transporting gas to the west. Last winter, Ukraine no longer bought our gas, but took it from storage facilities. Everyone was just lucky because the winter was warm. If this winter is even average, problems may arise. All the experience of communicating with Kiev in gas matters suggests that they will begin to take gas from the transit pipe, and another crisis will arise. Therefore, the European Commission is now holding relevant conversations with Kiev,” Chizhov said.
