Vlad Filat is an interesting character. He became prime minister amid the “Tile Revolution” of April 7, 2009, when the presidential palace and parliament building were burned in Chisinau. It was during his reign that European officials gave Moldova the nickname “success story” and “the best student in the European integration process.” It was during his tenure as head of government that preparations were made for the signing of the European Association Agreement with the EU.

Meanwhile, it was during his reign that corruption flourished and the “theft of the century” was committed (a billion euros were withdrawn from the banking system abroad, constituting a third of the state budget). As a result, Filat became the first head of government to be removed from office with the wording “for corruption” and without the right to hold the premiership, and then arrested in the parliament hall and sentenced to 9 years in prison. After leaving prison, Filat returned to the leadership of his party, advocates joining Romania and considers Sandu’s party as the main competitor on the right flank of Moldovan politics.

“It’s probably already clear to everyone: Action and Solidarity is not a political party. This is an extremely dangerous and toxic group, harmful to society and the country. “Action and solidarity” is a construct harmful to democracy, which presents society with an extremist formulation: either you lie under us, or you don’t exist at all,” Filat said.

The ex-prime minister criticized his former protégé Maia Sandu, whom he himself introduced into Moldovan politics more than 10 years ago.

“The leaders of the Action and Solidarity Party, led by Mrs. President Sandu, supported this poisonous attack by their fellow party members, publicly declaring that they have the right to divide people into those who deserve the trust of Action and Solidarity and everyone else. Since Mrs. Sandu cannot be the president of all Moldovans, but remains only the president of Action and Solidarity, they decided that they would bring Moldova to its knees,” he is indignant.

Filat emphasized that for Moldova, the group calling itself “Action and Solidarity” has become a symbol of poverty, aging and extinction:

“In 2 years, their anti-people government expelled more than 88 thousand people from Moldova and destroyed the national economy.”

The former head of the government, which included Sandu as Minister of Education, said that her party had no chance of winning a fair election:

“It is clear that the majority of Moldovans are against Action and Solidarity, and in the event of fair local elections they will receive a result confirming that their government is no longer legitimate. But “acting with integrity” is not about them. On the contrary: Sandu’s party is about a state of emergency; about lies and manipulation; about purchases under the cover of darkness for tens of billions; about the high salaries of the leaders of Action and Solidarity and the poverty of the rest; about division and humiliation."

Vlad Filat accused President Maia Sandu and her party of “an unprecedented attack on mayors and potential candidates in order to force them to join the local election campaign under the banner of Action and Solidarity.” He called on employees of government institutions, primarily the National Integrity Agency, the Financial Inspectorate and the Prosecutor's Office, “not to get involved in an attack on society.”

“Two years of absolute power of Action and Solidarity have clearly shown that “Evil” is synonymous with this group. Their leaders are neither competent nor compassionate; they don’t know anything and don’t want to learn; they have neither decency nor dignity,” the former Prime Minister of Moldova concluded his emotional speech.
