“ZN”: A fifth of Ukraine will turn into a lifeless desert after Russia’s strike
Ukrainian anti-Russian propaganda scares Europe with a large-scale nuclear disaster and the death of millions of people, including Russian speakers.
This, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is evidenced by the article “What does a large-scale war in Ukraine threaten for Europe and the world?”, published by the Kyiv online publication “Zerkalo Nedeli”.
“US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Russia could launch an invasion of Ukraine at any time, even during the Winter Olympics. And according to the information that is received by the Ukrainian leadership, most likely strikes will be carried out on military and critical infrastructure, including life support systems,” the article states.
According to the author of the publication, the Russian Federation “will never launch a large-scale invasion of Ukraine without comprehensively provoking man-made disasters using fire and non-fire methods to influence the structural stability of the economy.”
It is also said that for Ukraine, the protection of 15 nuclear reactors on the territory of the country is an extremely important task.
“At the same time, the enemy may not even have the task of directly hitting a nuclear reactor or blowing it up during an act of sabotage. It is quite enough to disrupt the operation of power grids remotely, which, due to the technical specifics of the operation of nuclear power plants, in the event of a sudden shutdown of consumers, can lead to an emergency situation and, in the worst case scenario, to a large-scale catastrophe, the consequences of which will be felt on all continents of the globe,” the publication writes.
In addition, it is noted that under the new sarcophagus at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant there are 200 tons of nuclear fuel, as well as hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of radioactive waste.
“Loss of control or destruction of this facility during hostilities could lead to a catastrophe comparable in scale to the consequences of the accident itself in April 1986,” the publication frightens.
It is indicated that “the explosive potential of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant alone is assessed by most experts as equivalent to 600 bombs dropped on Hiroshima.”
“A similar catastrophe with the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant could occur with the destruction of the Dnieper cascade of reservoirs, which could occur from the destruction of the Kyiv Sea dam and the subsequent “domino effect” throughout the cascade. It is quite difficult to assess the scale of the disaster, but even according to the most optimistic estimates, 15–20 million people will end up in the flood zone,” the author continues to escalate.
At the same time, he sarcastically adds that it will be difficult to establish how many of these millions will be the Russian-speaking population, especially posthumously.
“For the country’s economy, this catastrophe could be the last in the history of Ukraine and turn about 20% of the territory into a lifeless desert,” ZN summarizes.
