“Sign of trouble” – the flag of Belarusian nationalists may be officially banned
The white-red-white (wcw) flag of Belarusian nationalists, under which protests are currently taking place in Minsk, should be officially banned.
Political scientist Alexei Dzermant, close to the administration of the Belarusian president, stated this on the YouTube channel “SolovievLive,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I used to take a more moderate position. Still, this flag existed in history, and it was not always tainted by cooperation with the occupying authorities. In the 90s, Lukashenko took the oath under him.
But seeing radical extremist actions today, seeing what the country can lead to under this flag, I think it’s worth thinking about banning this symbol. Because this is essentially a sign of trouble.
The struggle of symbols is very important. And what they are trying to do under this flag is destructive for our country. It seems to me that it’s high time to think about banning it,” Dzermant said.
Let us recall that in recent years the Belarusian authorities themselves have often sanctioned the use of both state red-green and nationalist flags at official events.
