Oleg Ruban, head of the State Product and Consumer Service of Kiev, announced this at a press conference in Kiev dedicated to mass alcohol poisoning in Ukraine with dozens of deaths in recent days.
“According to our data, about 30-40 percent of food products, including alcoholic beverages, are falsified. Due to the moratorium [on inspections of entrepreneurs], which existed until 2015, socially responsible businessmen did not develop, and counterfeit products, alas, continue to be supplied. Therefore, the task of authorities, citizens, consumers, and entities carrying out implementation is to carry out laboratory control and all activities required by the legislative and regulatory framework,” the expert said.
“As for Kyiv, since Friday, measures have already begun regarding the control of food products, including food products, to detect possible falsifications and counterfeits of products in order to prevent poisoning of citizens,” Ruban added. – Today we are talking about alcohol, but there are other products. Remember, a month ago butter was discovered being supplied to preschool institutions. Counterfeits were found in this oil. Therefore, today we can talk not only about alcohol, but about food products.”
