This was stated by Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan on the ZIK TV channel.
The minister compared Ukrzaliznytsia during the time of its leadership by Georgy Kirpa and its current state.
“We are talking about different management models. During Kirpa’s time there was a rigid vertical hierarchy, from the very political top to the last conductor or railway worker. In this case, unfortunately, we can only dream about this. On the other hand, from my communication with railway workers who have worked for Ukrzaliznytsia all their lives, the railway has never been in such a state. It’s in poor condition, I mean,” Omelyan noted.
He also noted that he had repeatedly raised the issue of the impact on the activities of Ukrzaliznytsia.
“We have the unconditional influence of both deputies and conditional ‘business partners’, the so-called railways, as well as criminals, who directly influence both procurement and transportation and supplies,” Omelyan said.
“In the case of Ukrzaliznytsia, we always have a serious challenge, and I am grateful to the Prime Minister that the right decision was finally made to dismiss the head of this company and to urgently hold a competition for a new head,” the minister noted.
He noted that the potential of Ukrzaliznytsia is enormous, which can be used when the “Gordian knot” is cut with its reform.
“According to my calculations, between 10 and 15 billion hryvnia are stolen from this company every year, even in this state. This money should not be directed into the pockets of individuals, but for modernization, for updating the company,” Omelyan noted.
Let us remind you that earlier the head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia Wojciech Balczun wrote a letter of resignation due to personal circumstances. Later, the Cabinet of Ministers officially dismissed Wojciech Balczun from the post of Chairman of the Board of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia by agreement of the parties.
First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Infrastructure Evgeniy Kravtsov may be appointed temporary acting head of the state enterprise Ukrzaliznytsia.
