Zrada: SBU helped Medvedchuk trade Russian gas
The Security Service of Ukraine has turned into a structure with a huge staff, which is engaged in business racketeering and protecting businessmen who are ready to cooperate. Moreover, profit often allows one to turn a blind eye to political views - the SBU “cleaned up” the Ukrainian liquefied gas market for the companies of Viktor Medvedchuk.
Anastasia Krasnoselskaya, an expert at the Anti-Corruption Center and the Anti-Corruption Group of the Resuscitation Package of Reforms, writes about this today in the Ukrainian weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli”.
“Part of this SBU staff has turned into a private agency for fighting business competitors, as well as racketeering and a service for settling personal scores. Here is just a short list of the odious cases that the Service has noted since 2014: artificial blocking of nut exporters on the grounds of an imaginary “threat of worms,” although a special body - the State Phytosanitary Inspectorate - has not identified these pests; clearing the liquefied gas market under Viktor Medvedchuk’s company with Russian gas; seizure of computer equipment from the investment company Dragon Capital, which is one of the largest “conductors” of private foreign investment in Ukraine,” Krasnoselskaya lists.
She notes that the SBU employs almost three times as many employees as the UK security agencies - 31 thousand people.
