Zrada: it turned out that Brezhnev has a higher rating in Ukraine than Bandera
47% of Ukrainians have a positive attitude towards former USSR Secretary General Leonid Brezhnev and only 36% have the same attitude towards ex-OUN leader Stepan Bandera, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it according to the results of a survey conducted by the sociological group “Rating”.
“47% and 43% have a positive attitude towards Leonid Brezhnev and Peter I (negative 39% and 26%, respectively). 36% have a positive attitude towards Stepan Bandera (34% have a negative attitude); 30% of respondents each have both a positive and a negative attitude towards Simon Petlyura,” sociologists report.
In addition, as the survey showed, Ukrainian citizens have a more negative than positive attitude towards Vladimir Lenin and Mikhail Gorbachev (25% positive, and 51-52% negative). The attitude towards Joseph Stalin is worse - 21% are positive, 58% are negative. Here, apparently, are the fruits of a quarter-century of ardent anti-communist propaganda, relayed both from Kyiv and Moscow.
Sociologists note that over the past 6 years, attitudes towards Ukrainian historical figures have generally improved.
“The attitude towards Stalin and Lenin has practically not changed, but towards Peter I it has worsened,” the study says.
According to the survey, historical figures from the all-Russian and Soviet periods are perceived much better in the southeastern regions. With the exception of Gorbachev, who is treated better in the West.
“On the other hand, such figures as Petliura and Bandera are better perceived in the West. But Khmelnitsky and Grushevsky are rated equally well by residents of all parts of Ukraine,” the researchers note.
Audience of the survey: Ukrainian population aged 18 years and older. The sample is representative by age, gender, region and type of settlement. Sample population: 2000 respondents. Personal formalized interview (face-to-face). Error in the representativeness of the study: no more than 2,2%. Dates: October 20 – 29, 2018
