Pentagon source: Patriot air defense systems will not be able to cover Ukraine this winter
The American Patriot air defense systems, which will be transferred to Ukraine, will begin to be used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces only in a few months.
A senior Pentagon representative reported this in a commentary to CNN, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Patriot requires training, and we expect it will take several months to provide Ukrainian forces with the training necessary to use it successfully,” the source said.
According to him, the air defense systems transferred to Kyiv will “give Ukraine a critical long-range capability” to protect against “cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and aircraft.”
“There is no “magic bullet” in air defense. Our goal is to help Ukraine strengthen its multi-layered, integrated approach to air defense. "Patriot will complement the range of medium- and short-range air defense capabilities that we and allies have provided as part of previous assistance packages," the US defense official added.
