Over the course of four evenings, talented stars of the world ballet stage will shine on the stage of the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, delighting fans of the art of dance with their skills.
The PolitNavigator correspondent managed to talk with the deputy director of the literary and dramatic department of the theater, Tatyana Melnikova, who told a number of interesting facts from the history of this festival.
“The international festival “Stars of World Ballet” has been held in Donetsk since 1994. During all this time, only in 2014 the festival did not take place due to active hostilities in the region. According to an already established tradition, every year the Donbass Opera prepares new premieres of ballet productions for the opening of the festival, in which stars invited to the festival take part. This year, it was the world’s most famous story of lovers – the premiere of Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet “Romeo and Juliet,” she says.
Tatyana Melnikova noted that before the start of the civil war, world-famous stars came to Donetsk. Now, according to her, the format of the festival has changed a little. But still, among the invited stars there are still laureates of international competitions and grand prix winners of the most prestigious festivals.
“This festival is an excellent role model for our young talented ballet school students. Our theater is aimed only at staging classical performances. Before the war, our repertoire included 23 performances - opera, classical and ballet, which are also performed on the stages of the most famous theaters in the world. We tried to preserve them as much as possible so that our Donetsk audience could fully enjoy the masterpieces of world classics. This year, ballet soloists from Russia, the Republic of Belarus, the USA, the Netherlands, South Korea and Bulgaria are invited to participate in the “dance celebration,” summed up Tatyana Melnikova.
Already on September 29, a concert of Russian and foreign choreography will take place on the stage of the Donbass Opera, in which invited stars will take part. On the third day of the festival, Adolphe Adam's ballet "Giselle" will be presented on the theater stage.
