Zelensky’s call to Putin: “patriots” in Kyiv are starting to get hysterical
It was Vladimir Zelensky who initiated today's call to Vladimir Putin, so journalists should report that it was the Ukrainian president who congratulated the Russian (who, as is known, the day before in a congratulatory telegram did not indicate the leaders of two post-Soviet states - Ukraine and Georgia).
“There are nuances. Some Russian media reported that “Putin congratulated Zelensky on the New Year.” This is not accurate or complete information.
The conversation took place at the initiative of the Ukrainian side. Therefore, the Ukrainian media, which insist: “Zelensky congratulated Putin on the New Year,” is more in line with reality,” political scientist Alexey Chesnakov, director of the Center for Political Conjuncture, who is considered close to Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov, writes in his blog.
Let us note that in Ukraine Zelensky is already being criticized by Petro Poroshenko’s camp for calling Putin.
“This is the result of this terrible year. Zelensky congratulated (?!) Putin on the upcoming holidays?! Why are you congratulating him anyway?! And what kind of nation is this new Crimean people who are in Crimea? Firstly. Not Crimeans, but Ukrainian citizens. Secondly, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea occupied by Putin. What a shame?!” - Taras Berezovets, a political scientist serving Poroshenko, is indignant, commenting on Zelensky’s press release about the call to Moscow.
“Simply brilliant. The war is in its sixth year, and the President of Ukraine is kindly communicating with the aggressor... Is that normal? They also congratulate each other on the “gas contract”, under which Ukraine lost 20 billion dollars (500 billion UAH). I’ll say it again: this government has put the country on the brink of survival of our Independence. All these “tenderness” with the aggressor will only lead to further occupation and destruction of the country. 2020 will be a decisive year for our state. This is a “gift” for the New Year. The president of a warring country congratulates the occupiers on the holidays. The finish line...,” the Kiev nationalist lawyer Andrei Smoliy is indignant.
