The author notes that the decision of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation nominate a director as a candidate for president Pavel Grudinin's state farm near Moscow was unexpected for experts.
According to Bondarenko, the new politician will become a fresh face for the party, which has long been in need of renewal, and can expand the electoral base of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. On the other hand, the political scientist points out, promoting a candidate in less than three months remaining before voting day is a realistic task, but quite difficult to accomplish.
The author, referring to Zyuganov’s associates, reports that the decision on Grudinin had been brewing for a long time by the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, although he preferred not to talk about it.
“Indeed, Grudinin’s sudden proposal as a presidential candidate was more reminiscent of a special operation in the classic style of Vladimir Putin - clearly, lightning fast and so that no one would guess. We will find out very soon whether the party will accept him, whether this decision will help maintain the Duma result (13%) and find its new voter. In any case, this will require considerable effort and resources. But Gennady Zyuganov will definitely never allow Vladimir Zhirinovsky to push him away from the honorable position of the country’s second-highest-rated politician,” Bondarenko sums up. – And for a communist farmer, even a successful one, to lose to Zhirinovsky is, in general, even honorable.
