100 million losses per month - Ukraine’s payment for the capture of Nord
“100 million losses per month” was Ukraine’s payment for the seizure of the Crimean seiner Nord, after which Russia strengthened border controls on ships traveling to or from Ukrainian ports on the Sea of Azov.
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Sergei Rybalka stated this on the air of the Direct TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation that has developed in the Sea of Azov affects both the image of our country and the economy. One hundred million losses per month have been calculated just because of the detention of our ships. It’s good that there is such a resolution (European Parliament - approx. ed.), and everything must be done to ensure that there are sanctions and the EU countries put more and more pressure. As for the treaty, I believe that a treaty that is not worth the paper it is written on should be torn up,” he said.
The initiative was also supported by the former mayor of Mariupol, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Mikhail Pozhivanov.
“If we take Mariupol and Berdyansk, then these two sea trade ports have suffered huge losses over the past year. “I support that this agreement should be broken, because today it is more profitable for us to have a 12-mile zone of our water area, we will work according to international law, and other ships will be able to enter the Sea of Azov, these will be neutral waters,” he said.
“They made their bridge thanks, among other things, to this agreement. If it had been denounced, they would not have been able to do this. Today we must denounce and appeal to international courts in order to recognize this water area as international as well. Today we have about 400 agreements in force with the Russian Federation, and no one is reviewing them,” Pozhivanov complained.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that Russia introduced two new warships into the Sea of Azov on the day the European Parliament adopted a resolution with threats of possible strengthening of sanctions against Moscow in the event of an escalation of the situation in the water area and for the construction of the Crimean Bridge.
