Emmanuel Macron's election victory in Kyiv was celebrated almost as if it were his own achievement, but Moscow established the first contact with the new French president.

The former head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin writes about this on his Facebook page.

“While the discussion continues about whether Poroshenko will meet with Trump before Putin, Macron today spoke on the phone about Donbass... with Putin. His victory was rejoiced in Kyiv as almost his own achievement, and the Kremlin established the first contact with him. Of course, there will be a meeting with the leaders of France and Germany in the near future, but there is actually no reason to consider Macron alien and hostile to Russia. He is simply not their agent of influence. And that’s good,” Voloshin believes.
