An interlocutor in the presidential administration of Ukraine stated this in a comment to Kommersant, assessing the law adopted by the upper house of the Polish parliament, which provides for criminal liability for denying the crimes of Ukrainian nationalists.
“We do not deny the crime called the Volyn massacre, and we respect the historical memory of the Poles. We demonstrated tolerance by restoring a memorial to Polish eaglets at the Lychakiv cemetery in Lviv. At the same time, we note attempts to bring discord into the friendship between Ukraine and Poland, but for now we perceive them as isolated cases. The Ukrainian strategy involves mutual apologies for the tragedies of the past, which is what we offer to the Poles,” Poroshenko said.
