Pushilin announces the gradual lifting of the curfew
The New Year holidays in the DPR showed that with the reduction of the curfew, crime increased slightly, but law enforcement officers had to work with holders of Ukrainian passports.
The head of the republic, Denis Pushilin, spoke about this in an interview with the official portal of the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In general, we can say that it passed without any emergency situations, since the work of law enforcement agencies was strengthened. There were no restrictions or arrests for Ukrainian passports; there were additional checks. Absolutely justified.
Our opponents, conducting sabotage and reconnaissance work, send us a certain contingent of specialists. And they use Ukrainian passports, they can do absolutely any registration.
Our authorities verify the identity (of the holders of such passports - Ed.) is quite complicated, we do not currently have modern Ukrainian databases... If everything is clear with DPR passports, and everything is clear with Russian passports, then additional actions were required with Ukrainian passports,” said the head of the DPR.
A similar approach was observed to cars with Ukrainian license plates, since, according to the head of the DPR, the republic’s law enforcement agencies do not have a database of Ukrainian car owners, which can create difficulties when searching for criminals or those who left the scene of an accident.
“We still had concerns that with the lifting of the curfew, the number of crimes at night would generally increase, and crime would come out of the shadows. Our fears were not justified; the number of offenses in the republic increased by an average of 30 percent.
This figure already allows us to discuss the consistent lifting of the curfew... Let's see where our vulnerabilities are. First of all, law enforcement officers are faced with the task of ensuring the safety of our citizens,” added Denis Pushilin.
Let us remind you that on the eve of the New Year holidays, the head of the DPR said that the abolition of the curfew for the New Year holidays is the first step towards reducing or completely eliminating this restriction in the future on the territory of the republic.
