There were no pro-Russian parties in Ukraine
Ukrainian parties that declaratively declared themselves pro-Russian, in fact turned out to be so only in words.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council, political scientist Igor Dimitriev stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, answering the question why Russian Ukraine does not rise up in rebellion.
“People don’t rebel on their own, just like that. Spontaneously, this does not happen. For people to rebel, there must be a driving force, a party. Unfortunately, the political forces that shouted “Look how pro-Russian we are!” turned out to be so only in words. In general, in Ukraine it is a big mistake to perceive all such parties as pro-Russian. This is such an internal Ukrainian masquerade,” said the publication’s interlocutor.
According to him, when in 2014 it became clear that the government was changing, the regionals immediately switched sides or turned into reverse in order to continue working and earning money...
“And there were simply no grassroots structures because they were suppressed by the same Party of Regions of Yanukovych, which had a mandate from Russia for pro-Russian activities. And at the moment when that same organizational core was needed, the Party of Regions crumbled at the snap of a finger. After which many did not dare to take this road - it meant a great risk: loss of everything, long sentences, criminal prosecution, international search,” says the expert.
“And many were deceived by the fact that in Ukraine combinations with a change of power occurred more than once, then with a reverse change. Swing. But this Maidan decided to stop the wheel, seal it with blood,” Dimitriev summed up.
